We lived in Miedzyrzecz being children. The backyard of our house opened onto Staszica Street, where the house of Dr. Podbielski stood. All the neighborhood kids often played together, often directly in the street. It was safe. When a car drove by, quite rarely, we simply stepped off the road.
Everyone knew each other. The doctor was also known to everyone, but he became popular after publication in a regional newspaper.
Then for many months we had to give up our games . Day and night a lot of people camped out on the sidewalks and yards near the Doctor's house. They slept on newspapers. It was summer and warm. They were coming for rescue. TP was dispensed into bottles, diluted. Not everyone knew , that you should have a bottle with you, because at PP Podbielski's the bottles ran out quickly. It was then that my younger brother "brought out" all the bottles , intended by my mother for mortar, from our basement.
The doctor and his wife were also sometimes seen later. All the children always bowed respectfully, and the doctor smiled gently.
We in the family also used TP1 and TP 2. Some said it was from the initials of Mr. Doctor, others said it was short for "It Helps". :).
